Recently, the Chinese government and Micronesian government jointly held the commencement ceremony for the second-class highway project in Pohnpei, Micronesia and the reconstruction project of the Kahmar Bridge, marking the official start of the construction of the project. Huang Zheng, Chinese Ambassador to Micronesia, Yosiwu George, Vice President of Micronesia, and Liu Zhiyuan, deputy general manager of the overseas business company of China Railway 14th Bureau Group, attended the construction commencement ceremony together with 200 other government officials, representatives of Chinese-funded institutions and local people.
At the commencement ceremony, a traditional blessing ceremony rich in the regional characteristics of the South Pacific island countries was held. Huang Zheng, Chinese Ambassador to Micronesia and Yosiwu George, Vice President of Micronesia, delivered impassioned speeches emphasizing the development of China-Micronesia friendly relations, the development achievements of Micronesian infrastructure and economic development with Chinese government’s support.
Micronesia is located on the west coast of the South Pacific. The reconstruction project of Pohnpei State Highway and Kahmar Bridge is one of the important assistance projects agreed by the governments of China and Micronesia. On January 15, 2018, the Chinese government and the Micronesian government signed the exchange of letters on the establishment of the reconstruction project.
