Recently, the Phase-1 project of Lanzhou Rail Transit Line 1, invested and constructed by China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, has been put into trial operation. It is the first rail transit line in Gansu Province and the first rail transit line in China that crosses underneath the Yellow River.
The Phase-1 project of Lanzhou Rail Transit Line 1 connects Donggang in Chengguan District in the east with Chen Guanying in Xigu District in the west. With a total investment of 19.816 billion yuan, the main line is about 25.9 kilometers long and it consists of 20 underground metro stations.
China Railway Construction Corporation serves Lanzhou rail transit construction with a whole industrial chain covering investment and financing, survey and design, engineering construction and equipment manufacturing. China Railway Construction Investment Group undertakes the investment and general contracting for the BT test section of the first stage project. China Railway First Survey and Design Institute independently completes the overall contracting design, all system design and sites design. China Railway 11th Bureau, 13th Bureau and other 7 companies carry out the construction of related stations, tunnels and communication and signaling systems as well as the mechatronic system installation.
The project construction commenced on March 28, 2014. In the process of construction , China Railway First Survey and Design Institute set up a team of top experts in China, headed by Liang Wenhao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Li Guoliang, master of national engineering survey and design. Other well-known domestic academicians and experts in this field were also invited. After multi-rounds of technical discussions and demonstrations, they confirmed a series of major issues such as waterproofing of tunnel support, design of precipitation and reinforcement of sand and pebble strata, disaster prevention and mitigation, thus laying a solid foundation for the construction of crossing the Yellow River. The builders have overcome several world-class technical problems including TBM crossing under the Yellow River, and station and tunnel construction under the geological conditions red sandstone.
