On Aug 26, the groundbreaking ceremony of The Project of Design and Construction of Fourth Marine Bridge between Macau and Taipa was held. With the drilling of the first pile, the project has entered the construction phase of the main structure.
The bridge, which will be built east of Friendship Bridge, is a vital part of Macau's overall transportation system. It will connect the land reclamation area known as Zone A and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Zhuhai-Macao port to the north, and the Zone E1 reclamation area to the south, spanning the outer and inner harbor waterways. The 3.1-kilometer-long main line of the bridge is designed as a two-way eight-lane road. The sea-crossing section is about 2.9-kilometer-long, with two navigable span bridges spanning 280 meters.
