On Jan. 8, CCECC and Tanzania Railways Corporation signed the contract to build the Tanzanian Central Line Standard Gauge Railway line connecting the town of Isaka to the Lake Victoria port city of Mwanza. Tanzanian President John Magufuli attended and witnessed the event in Chato.
The Tanzanian Central Line Standard Gauge Railway has played an important role in connecting Tanzania and neighboring countries such as Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, etc to the Indian Ocean. It is also a crucial part of the planned network of the Central Corridor in the East African Community, and a key project included in Tanzania Development Vision 2025 and the Implementation Strategy of the Transport Policy of 2011-2025.
When completed, it will significantly enhance Tanzania's transport capacity and reduce inland transport costs, and will be of great importance in enhancing the transport situation in East Africa and promoting regional economic development.
The main line of the project is 249km long, connecting the town of Isaka to Mwanza, the second largest city in Tanzania. CCECC will actively plan, carefully organize and implement the project, contributing to the infrastructure construction in Tanzania and East Africa.
