The first shield tunneling machine, named "HaoJiang Pioneer," for the design and construction of the Macao Light Rail East Line (North Section), was officially launched on May 7. This milestone marks the project's official transition into the tunnel excavation phase.
Spanning approximately 2.74 kilometers, the north section of Macao Light Rail East Line connects Zone A of the Macao Peninsula in the south to the Border Gate Port in the north. This project represents a crucial public infrastructure initiative designed to enhance Macao's rail transit network and improve mobility for residents. The underground tunnel section stretches about 2077 meters and faces significant challenges: densely packed urban buildings, limited construction space, and complex hydrogeological conditions. These constraints necessitate multiple shield launching and receiving operations, demanding exceptional precision in tunneling operations, adaptability to varying geological formations, and comprehensive risk management strategies.
To address these challenges, CRCC has custom-designed the "HaoJiang Pioneer" earth pressure balanced shield tunneling machine. This technological marvel measures 87 meters in length, weighs approximately 690 tons, and features a cutting wheel with a 7.28-meter excavation diameter. The machine incorporates intelligent monitoring systems and high-precision alignment correction capabilities, enabling it to analyze soil structure changes in real-time and adjust cutting wheel speed and thrust accordingly. These features significantly enhance construction efficiency while minimizing settlement risks. The tunneling machine also employs advanced technology including visualization cameras in the excavation chamber and automatic spraying systems, improving coordination efficiency during operations and substantially reducing environmental impact on surrounding areas.
The LRT East Line represents a critical infrastructure component for Macao's high-quality sustainable development and embodies residents' aspirations for more convenient urban mobility. The launch of the "HaoJiang Pioneer" tunneling machine heralds a new era in underground development for Macao's transportation infrastructure. Beyond advancing technological innovation in Macao's construction sector, this project provides powerful momentum for the region's economic diversification strategy.
