China Railway Construction (CRCC), in a joint venture with China Communications Construction (CCCC), recently signed a supplementary concession agreement with the Bahia State Government in Brazil for the Salvador-Itaparica Bridge.
This bridge will be Latin America's longest cross sea cable-stayed bridge, connecting the city of El Salvador with ltaparica lsland. The project spans approximately 46.8 kilometers in total, with the main sea-crossing bridge measuring 12.4 kilometers. The main bridge features a 922-meter double-tower, double-cable-plane cable-stayed design, supported by what will be the world's deepest pile foundations. The approach bridges, utilizing a continuous rigid frame structure, demonstrate a perfect combination of super-long spans, large crossings, extreme heights, and significant longitudinal slopes, offering a new and innovative example for global bridge construction.
The construction of this bridge is a significant step in deepening infrastructure cooperation between China and Brazil. It will optimize the urban layout between the Bahia Bay area and the southern coast of Bahia State, invigorating regional connectivity within Bahia. This project is expected to effectively boost local tourism, logistics, and trade development, improve local employment and livelihoods, and stimulate regional economic growth. As a shining example of deepened China-Brazil cooperation, the project's implementation will effectively align the Belt and Road Initiative with Brazil's Growth Acceleration Plan. This further strengthens the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Brazil, powerfully demonstrating their shared vision for development and mutual opportunities.
