World's First Kilometer-Deep Hard Rock Shaft Boring Machine Unveiled
Date: 2025-04-25

The world's first boring machine capable of excavating kilometer-deep hard rock shafts, dubbed "Gangtie Jiliang," has recently rolled off the production line at CRCC's Second Industrial Park in Changsha.

This milestone development comes from a collaborative "industry-university-research-application" team that built upon the experience gained from CRCC's first-generation shaft boring machine, the "Shuchang." The new machine incorporates extensive research innovations, featuring completely redesigned cutting heads, support systems, suspension platforms, and lifting mechanisms. As a comprehensively upgraded second-generation model, the "Gangtie Jiliang" can excavate full-face shafts to depths exceeding 1,000 meters.

The successful development exemplifies the power of collaborative innovation in industry-university-research-application. It represents a significant leap forward for China in ultra-deep excavation technology, providing safer and more efficient equipment for the development of deep mineral resources and underground spaces. This breakthrough further strengthens China’s competitive position in the global field of deep underground development.
