CRCC completed the main steel structure of the Shenzhen Pinghu South Railway logistic park phase II project on May 25, marking a milestone for China's first smart logistics park constructed above an active railway. Once operational, the facility will create seamless integration between railway freight services and urban delivery networks nationwide.
As one of China's first 23 national logistics park projects, Pinghu South Railway logistic park leverages its strategic location at the city's geographic center through an innovative "above-rail development" approach. The design preserves existing freight operations while building upward to create a multi-level logistics complex combining warehousing, cargo transfer, and commercial functions. Spanning 850,000 square meters, the project includes 13 new logistics warehouses, four transport ramps, and two auxiliary corridors, requiring over 100,000 tons of steel—more than double the amount used in Beijing's iconic "Bird's Nest" stadium.
The project team overcame significant construction challenges including safety risks, quality control complexities, and equipment coordination difficulties by implementing advanced BIM plus drone surveillance technology. This digital approach optimized structural connections and utility layouts, enabled construction simulation and visual modeling, and provided millimeter-precision monitoring throughout the steel installation process.
The two-phase development builds on the successful phase I Pinghu South Railway Container Center Station, which is already operational. Upon completion, the facility will become China's largest standalone railway logistics center and Asia's biggest integrated road-rail-sea transport hub. This "railway plus urban logistics" model will enhance China-Europe freight train services, strengthen Belt and Road connectivity, and position Shenzhen as a global logistics hub.
