Construction Begins on Second China-Mongolia Cross-Border Railway
Date: 2025-05-19

Construction officially commenced on May 14 for the China-Mongolia Gants Mod–Gashuun Sukhait Railway, which is being built by CRCC.

This new railway corridor comes nearly 70 years after the opening of the first China-Mongolia cross-border railway, the Ereenhot–Zamyn-Uud Railway, which began operations in 1956. The new route spans approximately 9.91 kilometers, extending from Gants Mod Port in Bayannuur City, pass through the Gashuun Sukhait Port, and connect to the Gashuun Sukhait Station in Mongolia’s Omnogovi aimag.

Once completed, the railway will create a seamless connection between China's Ganquan Railway and Mongolia's Southern Railway network. This will significantly improve customs clearance capacity at the border ports between the two countries and stimulate coordinated development in various sectors including cross-border logistics, border trade services, and industrial parks. The project represents an important step in enhancing regional connectivity and building a closer community with a shared future between the two nations.
