President Lazarus Chakwera Attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Six-lane Project in Lilongwe

The ground-breaking ceremony for the road project of the Capacity Improvement of Kenyatta Road and Sharrar Street in Lilongwe City of Malawi, contracted by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, was launched on Tuesday 31st August. The President Lazarus Chakwera was present and unveiled the plaque for the commencement, marking the official kick-start of the project. The attendants were the key persons from Ministry of Transport and Public Works, Lilongwe City Council, Roads Authority and Consultant unit, among others.

Being briefed about the project, the President gave full recognition to the preliminary preparation done by the Contractor, instructing the Contractor to proceed with the works with high quality on schedule. He described the project can prominently alleviate traffic congestion in Lilongwe and voiced that the government will continue to increase investment in infrastructure of this kind in the future.

The project is located in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, which will see the upgrading of the existing Kenyatta road to six-lanes with three lanes in each direction and Sharrar Street will be improved to dual-lanes.

Next, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation commits to implement the works with high standards by adhering to its enterprise spirit of "diligence, integrity and perseverance". Meanwhile, regulations on pandemic prevention and control shall be strictly enforced to further secure the smooth delivery of the project on time with superior quality and high efficiency.
