CRCC Takes Lead as China's First Railway Prefabricated Building Standard Officially Implemented
Date: 2025-03-10

CRCC recently released and implemented the Technical Specification for Prefabricated Railway Buildings and Structures (TB 10130-2024), marking Chinas first standard for railway prefabricated buildings. This comprehensive guideline will standardize technical requirements across the sector.

Prefabricated construction works like assembling building blocks. Components such as wall panels, canopies, and staircases are manufactured in factories before being transported to construction sites for quick assembly. This method can reduce construction time to just three months while offering significant advantages in speed, energy efficiency, environmental protection, and safety.

According to Li Hui, the standard's principal author, the new regulations address the unique challenges of railway construction projects, which are often small-scale, remote, scattered, and have special safety requirements. The standard introduces innovative approaches, including technical planning strategies, building integration methods, and unified design processes. It defines construction models, design standards, and structural systems tailored to railway environments.

Safety considerations for construction near operating railway lines are a key focus of the regulations. The standard provides comprehensive guidelines covering everything from system design and component manufacturing to transportation, installation, and quality inspection. A notable innovation is using railway beam yards and track vehicles for prefabricated component production and transport.

Developed over five years, the specification incorporates input from various sectors, including construction, design, implementation, and operations. It underwent rigorous review by both domestic and international experts to ensure scientific validity, technological advancement, and practical applicability.

This standard will play a crucial role in regulating railway prefabricated construction, supporting China's green and low-carbon railway development, contributing to national carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals, and guiding the railway construction industry toward greater efficiency, environmental sustainability, and standardization.
