China Railway Construction Co. Ltd (CRCC), one of top 500 largest corporations in the world, devoted its efforts in infrastructural construction in Africa to the benefit of African people, said Zhao Guangfa, president and CEO of the CRCC.
In an exclusive interview with Xinhua in Lagos, Nigeria at the weekend, Zhao said CRCC's projects enhanced the friendship with African people, but also provide more job opportunities for locals.
Zhao said the CRCC has 209 projects in 35 countries in the world, but most of them in Africa where the CRCC and its sub companies employed more than 30,000 people and provided over 100,000 job opportunities in related industries.
In Africa and Middle East, the CRCC has five major project countries, that is, Algeria, Nigeria, Libya, Angola and Saudi Arabia where there are projects of railways, expressways and highways, and civil infrastructure. The projects in the five areas accounted for 70 percent of CRCC's total, he said.
Zhao is leading a delegation on a 10-day visit in Nigeria. He said in Nigeria, apart from railway and highway projects, Lekki Free Trade Zone is a strategic development project in cooperation with Lagos State Government.
He said, "The CRCC and other Chinese companies had made efforts in the development of the zone and the Chinese government has set it as one of major overseas development zones in China's cooperation projects in Africa."
"With the joint efforts between the CRCC and Lagos State Government, the Lekki Free trade zone is expected to grow on the fast track in the coming years," he said.
On the Lekki Peninsular on Guinea Bay in Atlantic Ocean, the free trade zone is 50 km from Lagos City and its total planned area is 165 sqkm.
